June 24, 2025- House Bill 172 granted Ohioans the ability to discharge fireworks in the state under certain conditions.  However, Madison Twp, Franklin County, will continue with its stance of no discharging of fireworks within the unincorporated portions of the township. 

The Madison Township Board of Trustees passed Resolution #131-2023, and the two local municipalities (Groveport and Canal Winchester) within Madison Township have decided to restrict the discharge of all fireworks. 

If individuals who are not licensed fireworks exhibitors are caught discharging fireworks within the unincorporated portion of the township, they could be subjected to charges (ORC 3743.45 (D-2) / First Degree Misdemeanor and the confiscation of all remaining fireworks in their possession.

This ordinance was passed in 2010 by the Board of Trustees. We have recently had an increase in inquiries regarding noise issues.
